Glory of God — The Fifth Pillar of SWAGGER 7 by Pamela D. Rodgers

"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

— 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV)

Every believer eventually asks, "What is my purpose?"

Scripture gives a clear answer.

We were created, redeemed, and called to live for the Glory of God.

The Glory of God is more than His radiant splendor or majestic presence. It is the visible display of His holiness, goodness, power, love, wisdom, and character. Throughout Scripture, God’s glory reveals who He is and invites His people to reflect His character in the world.

As followers of Jesus Christ, our lives are no longer centered on ourselves. Every thought, every word, every action, every relationship, every victory, and every trial becomes an opportunity to magnify the One who has redeemed us.

The Glory of God is the fifth pillar of SWAGGER 7 because the worthy walk ultimately exists to make Christ known.

Pillar 5 · Part One

Our Walk Should Bring Glory to God

Paul gives believers one of the broadest commands in all of Scripture. Notice that he includes even the ordinary activities of life. Whether we are working, serving, speaking, leading, parenting, worshiping, studying, or resting, every part of life can glorify God.

Walking worthy means living with the continual awareness that our lives are a testimony of the God we serve.

"…that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen."

— 1 Peter 4:11 (NKJV)

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

— Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)

The goal is not that people admire us. The goal is that people glorify God because they see Christ reflected in us.

Pillar 5 · Part Two

Living with a Daily Mindset: Everything Is to God’s Glory

One of the most practical ways to cultivate a worthy walk is to begin each day with a settled conviction: Everything I see, say, hear, think, and do will be for the glory of God.

This is more than a statement. It is a daily surrender. It is choosing to filter every part of life through one question: "Will this glorify God?"

What I See

I choose to guard my eyes from anything that dishonors Christ.

"I will set nothing wicked before my eyes…"

— Psalm 101:3 (NKJV)

What I Hear

I intentionally fill my heart with truth rather than voices that lead me away from God.

"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

— Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

What I Say

My words should encourage, strengthen, and honor the Lord.

"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification…"

— Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV)

What I Think

My thoughts should be brought under the Lordship of Christ.

"…whatever things are true… noble… just… pure… lovely… meditate on these things."

— Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)

What I Do

Every action becomes an act of worship.

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…"

— Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)

This daily posture transforms ordinary moments into opportunities for worship.

Pillar 5 · Part Three

The Glory Christ Shares with His People

One of the most remarkable statements Jesus ever made is found in His High Priestly Prayer.

"And the glory which You gave Me I have given them…"

— John 17:22a (NKJV)

What an astonishing gift. Jesus shares with His followers the privilege of reflecting His glory. This is not equality with God’s divine essence. Rather, Christ graciously allows His people to participate in displaying His character, His love, His holiness, and His mission before the world. This is both an honor and a sacred responsibility.

"…we all… beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory…"

— 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)

The more we behold Christ, the more we become like Him. Glory is not merely something we admire. It is something the Holy Spirit works within us as He conforms us to the image of Christ.

Pillar 5 · Part Four

Glory Produces Unity

Jesus immediately explains why He has shared His glory.

"The glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one."

— John 17:22 (NKJV)

The glory Christ gives His people is meant to cultivate unity. Just as the Father and the Son are perfectly united, believers are called to reflect that unity within the Body of Christ.

"…endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

— Ephesians 4:3 (NKJV)

Unity does not mean uniformity. It means a shared devotion to Christ that transcends personal preferences, pride, and selfish ambition.

What Unity Looks Like

Believers glorify God when they:

  • ◆Forgive others quickly.
  • ◆Pray for one another.
  • ◆Rejoice in another person’s success.
  • ◆Bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).
  • ◆Speak truth with love (Ephesians 4:15).
  • ◆Refuse gossip and division.
  • ◆Serve one another with humility.
  • ◆Pursue reconciliation rather than resentment.
  • ◆Place Christ above personal preferences.

"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

— John 13:35 (NKJV)

Our unity becomes a testimony to the world that Christ truly lives among His people.

Walking Worthy

Living Each Day for His Glory

Walking worthy means living each day with one supreme desire — that God would be glorified through every part of our lives. Whether in moments of joy or sorrow, success or struggle, public ministry or private faithfulness, our purpose remains the same: to reflect the beauty and character of Jesus Christ.

As we behold the glory of the Lord, the Holy Spirit transforms us from glory to glory. This transformation reshapes our attitudes, our words, our relationships, and our priorities until our lives increasingly resemble Christ. When believers walk in humility, love, unity, and obedience, the world catches a glimpse of the One we follow.

The Glory of God is not an abstract idea reserved for heaven. It is the daily pursuit of a life that says, in every circumstance, "May Christ be seen in me."

Reflection

One Question That Changes Everything

Before making a decision, responding to a difficult situation, or beginning a new day, pause and ask yourself:

"Will this bring glory to God?"

Imagine the impact if every believer intentionally filtered their thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions through that one question. Living for God’s glory changes how we speak to our families, how we serve in our churches, how we conduct ourselves at work, how we engage with our communities, and even how we respond when no one else is watching.

A life lived for God’s glory is a life that continually points others to Jesus rather than to us.

Self-Examination

Sit With These Questions

  • ◆Is the glory of God truly the highest motivation behind my daily choices?
  • ◆Do my words consistently encourage others and reflect the character of Christ?
  • ◆Are my thoughts aligned with what is true, pure, honorable, and pleasing to God?
  • ◆In my relationships, am I actively pursuing unity, humility, forgiveness, and peace?
  • ◆Is there any area of my life where pride or self-promotion has become more important than God’s glory?
  • ◆If someone observed my life this week, would they be drawn closer to Christ because of what they saw?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You alone are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. Thank You for creating me, redeeming me through Jesus Christ, and inviting me to reflect Your glory in this world. Thank You for the incredible privilege of sharing in the glory Your Son has graciously given to those who belong to Him.

Teach me to live each day with a heart that seeks Your glory above my own. Guard my eyes, my ears, my thoughts, my words, and my actions so that everything I see, say, hear, think, and do honors You. When pride tempts me to seek recognition for myself, humble me and remind me that every good and perfect gift comes from You.

Lord Jesus, help me walk in the unity You prayed for in John 17. Make me a peacemaker, a servant, a forgiver, and a faithful witness to Your love. Let my life reflect Your character so clearly that others are drawn not to me, but to You.

Holy Spirit, continue transforming me from glory to glory until my life increasingly resembles Christ. May everything I do, whether great or small, become an act of worship that brings honor to the Father.

For Your glory alone. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

A SWAGGER Declaration of Glory

Today I declare that my life belongs to Jesus Christ. Therefore, everything I see, say, hear, think, and do will be for the glory of God. May my thoughts reflect His truth, my words extend His grace, my actions reveal His love, and my life point others to Christ. I choose humility over pride, unity over division, obedience over compromise, and worship over self. Whether in moments of celebration or seasons of difficulty, my purpose remains the same: to glorify God in all things. For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.
